four general type races by purse
Cheap Claimers low claim value low purse value
Cheap claimers defined as claiming race with a claiming value below 9,000. Sometimes it seems that Cheap Claimers are the same bunch of horses running every couple weeks. It looks like they just take turns winning a race. These races are known to be hard to pick. Cheap claimers very seldom have the ability to win two races in a row. The horses that did win last time out will often get bet down because of this.
Find a horse which can win. He may be going off as a long shot.
Picking a long shot in a cheap claimer.
As I mentioned the favorite in many cheap claimers is the horse who won last time among this bunch. When actually he is tired from his last race and probably will not win. This is the perfect time to find a good long shot. 30 – 40 - 100 to ones are out these waiting. Three things to look for are;
Works are key, If a trainer is playing it honest and really wants a win for this horse he will actually (1) work the horse. Many a long shot have I picked by going with the only horse who worked to the cheap claiming race. Maybe getting a shot a(2) good jockey will get him to win. Or, third check the last ten races. If(3) any of the races were very good then you could have found your shot. It’s possible that the owner was waiting for this race because with a low purse he can make more betting a shot than he can winning the race. Get in on the fix!!!
